Short Description
The Victims of Crime Act is funded with fines paid by offenders convicted of violating federal laws, supports direct services to victims of crime. The Act requires that priority be given to services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, and other groups identified by the state as underserved victims of crime.

Objectives and Goals
These grants supplement state funds that reimburse victims for out-of-pocket expenses resulting from crime and support direct services to crime victims.

Formula Grants
Uses and Restrictions
VOCA formula grants for crime victim assistance, awarded through subgrants to state agencies and local service providers, support direct services to crime victims in every state, the District of Columbia, and every territory.
Eligibility Requirements
Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) formula grants for crime victim compensation are awarded to every state, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

Government Organizations; Nonprofit Organizations;
Assistance Consideration
VOCA grants require that the grantee provide 20 percent of total program costs.
Post Assistance Requirements
Grantees are required to proved quarterly or monthly data and fiscal reports. The state programs that receive VOCA funds are required to submit an annual state performance report that includes information on all grants active during the fiscal year. The performance reports detail the effect the VOCA funds had on services to crime victims in the state.
